A great read for young adults and children just getting into chapter books。 Also a fun, little quick read for anyone。 I'd always wanted to read this series。 Having free little libraries available has made a difference in what I select for reading。 Enjoy! I'd heard the series was good, but this book definitely didn't do it for me or for my 7 year old。 It was VERY dull writing-The knight picked him up。 He placed him on the horse。 He got on behind him。 He slapped the reins。I gouged out my eye with a pencil。 It was so dull that my daughter almost didn't want to finish the short 66 page book, but by then we were on the 2nd to last chapter, so I talked both of us into sticking it out for 5 more minutes。 I'd heard the series was good, but this book definitely didn't do it for me or for my 7 year old。 It was VERY dull writing-The knight picked him up。 He placed him on the horse。 He got on behind him。 He slapped the reins。I gouged out my eye with a pencil。 It was so dull that my daughter almost didn't want to finish the short 66 page book, but by then we were on the 2nd to last chapter, so I talked both of us into sticking it out for 5 more minutes。 。。。more

Another good installment in this series。 A fun adventure and has just enough info to spark the imagination of little ones and inspire them to learn more。 The illustrations are quite well done as well。 Knights and Castles is the non fiction companion to this volume。 Another good installment in this series。 A fun adventure and has just enough info to spark the imagination of little ones and inspire them to learn more。 The illustrations are quite well done as well。 Knights and Castles is the non fiction companion to this volume。 。。。more

Another great read from the series, I enjoyed reading this one because of its interesting story about knights-- which are always exciting。

This one was a little strange。 It was suspenseful (kiddo was on edge for most of it) but yet。。。 very little actually happened。 I'm still not sure what to make of it。 Maybe I would have enjoyed it more as a kid? My kids (4&5) have been enjoying the Magic Tree House series but they are definitely not my favorites。 I am reading them aloud and it’s somewhat painful。 There’s almost no variation in sentence structure or length throughout the books。 It makes a very choppy read aloud。 Jack and Annie travel to a vague medieval setting of a castle。 They encounter some type of castle guards who begin speaking in “old timey” English (who art thou) which is dropped like three sentences later when they are speaking My kids (4&5) have been enjoying the Magic Tree House series but they are definitely not my favorites。 I am reading them aloud and it’s somewhat painful。 There’s almost no variation in sentence structure or length throughout the books。 It makes a very choppy read aloud。 Jack and Annie travel to a vague medieval setting of a castle。 They encounter some type of castle guards who begin speaking in “old timey” English (who art thou) which is dropped like three sentences later when they are speaking in regular English。 This was annoying to me but I’m sure not something kids really pick up on。 It would have been nice for the author to keep that consistent。 As usual the pair don’t really engage in much of a meaningful way with their surroundings, they don’t really learn anything that is directly related to their adventure although their is a broad ideal they come across。 I can see the appeal of these books for new chapter book readers, and I acknowledge that some of my critiques are related to the intended audience and meeting them where they are。 。。。more

This was a good read。 It didn’t seem to have quite the same grab as the first one did but my kids still really appreciated the story and I appreciated the history。 We laughed pretty hard when Annie uses her flashlight to scare off the castle guards。

I was reading this aloud on the way home from a family Mothers Day camping trip to the little boys but pretty soon we were all laughing and biting our tongues when we were nervous for Jack and Annie on the car drive。 We all laughed so hard when Annie pulled out the flashlight! JT and Solo were on like the edge of there seats and I have to say I was into it too。 I loved reading Magic Tree House as a child and I still love the series now。

Marianne

This one wasn’t as good as the first。 Evelyn got distracted more through this one。

Lindsay Maclachlan

Not that interesting to be honest。 Not enough happens to be captivating

Meredith Nunley

We got stalled out in this one, so it was harder to keep momentum and enjoy it。

After spending a lot of time in the tree house, Jack and Annie are taken back to the Middle Ages to a castle where a feast is about to begin。 After only being there for a short time, they realize they are not welcome there。 I love how detailed the text is。 I was so excited to read this book again because I remembered loving this book when I was young because I remember the images in my head so clearly。 The text is so detailed that sometimes when I think back on them, I remember them as movies an After spending a lot of time in the tree house, Jack and Annie are taken back to the Middle Ages to a castle where a feast is about to begin。 After only being there for a short time, they realize they are not welcome there。 I love how detailed the text is。 I was so excited to read this book again because I remembered loving this book when I was young because I remember the images in my head so clearly。 The text is so detailed that sometimes when I think back on them, I remember them as movies and not as books。 I gave this book 5 stars。 This book really encourages students to use their own imagination。 It is easy to understand and engage in。 The book is not too long and I think it would be a great starter book for someone who is looking to start reading chapter books。 。。。more

Jack and Annie are chased through castle, fall into a moat and then rescued by a knight。

Per my 5 year old — I liked this one the best part was when she used the flashlight to scare the knights。 As a mom — I am really impressed with these books。 They are perfect for kids just getting into reading。 I am excited to continue our magic treehouse journey。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I liked the knights。 I liked the trapdoor and reading about castles。 I didn't like that the kids got on the knight's horse because it was a stranger's horse。 We are told never to go with strangers。 I still wish the illustrations were in color。 I hope Mary Pope Osborne reads my comment and decides to have the books printed in color。 I would also like a few more illustrations throughout the book。 Overall, the book was fabulous and fun to read。 I can't wait to read the next one。 Just in case you do I liked the knights。 I liked the trapdoor and reading about castles。 I didn't like that the kids got on the knight's horse because it was a stranger's horse。 We are told never to go with strangers。 I still wish the illustrations were in color。 I hope Mary Pope Osborne reads my comment and decides to have the books printed in color。 I would also like a few more illustrations throughout the book。 Overall, the book was fabulous and fun to read。 I can't wait to read the next one。 Just in case you do read this, thank you, Mary Pope Osborne, for writing this series。 I love it。 。。。more
